COAL is an architecture and interior design studio based in Cornwall.
We believe good design ages well.
We take a cohesive approach to architecture, interior design and landscape. Telling the story of our clients and the surrounding landscape, each project takes us on a unique journey from conception to completion.
Our interest lies in the history of design. We work across many different architectural styles and it is the dialogue between old and new that underpins our work. We will always look to maintain the history of a place, preserving texture and patination, in preparation for the new purpose.
Our projects strive to create low energy homes, made of natural materials and furnished with colour, handcrafted treasures and timeless antiques.
Emily Reilly | Interior Designer
Interior Designer & Co-Founder
Emily looks after COAL interiors. Her work is inspired by the natural hues and textures of the Cornish landscape. For each project, she sources antique and bespoke furnishings to make truly unique homes which reflect the lives of her clients.
Emily broadened her design vocabulary through a BA in History of Art at UCL. She went on to work in the V&A publishing department for 5 years, which fuelled her passion for art and design further. Surrounded by the museum’s collection of textiles, art and furniture provided endless references.
A natural path then led her to retrain in Interior Design at Central Saint Martins and eventually down to Cornwall.
